Day 398

Memory - Day two of Land of Visible Pain -I See You.-

Description: Kino goes through their morning routine of waking up at the crack of dawn to perform maintenance on their two guns, Canon and Woodsman, before showering and kicking the talking motorrad (motorcycle) Hermes awake. They seem to be staying at a hotel manned only by machines, and spend the day exploring a neat and orderly country that seems to be entirely cleaned and cared for by machines... while utterly lacking any human residents.

They travel to the residential area in which all homes are well-kept and therefore must still be in use, even though all of the houses are spaced far away from each other separated by trees and don't have any other signs of residents inside. Eventually Kino goes to one of the tallest buildings in the central district so that they can view the country from the observational deck.

Using a sniper scope, Kino looks down at the residential areas again and is able to observe people going about their days, but all confined to their own homes - never venturing away from their house or to visit other residents. Kino muses that this means they aren't just afraid of travelers, everyone really just seems to live separate lives all alone.

They then take a guided tour of the machine factory which is run by and toured by machines, before returning to the hotel. The machines, although able to speak, do not have any answer as to why they haven't met a single human here.

Note: the original Japanese does not particularly gender Kino, and by default most people tend to assume Kino is male upon sight, so assume cases of "Miss" etc. are just some polite referral to Kino (one official translation uses Mx.) unless otherwise noted.
