428 cw: euthanasia
Description: Kino is in a small room with one barely living bedridden person and four others in white clothes and masks. The four in the masks talk happily of their memories together, and the bedridden woman smiles faintly... just in time for Kino to take a gun out of a bag and shoot her three times in the heart, killing her instantly. The four others call Kino a heretic, and carry out a short, soft conversation.
"Heretic, what a thing to do!"
"I killed because I wanted to kill."
"Heretic, leave this place."
"Then I shall."
Kino returns the gun to the bag and leaves, though not before one of the four thanks Kino with real emotion.
Kino exits to a corridor leading out from the country. The corridor is roofed, but surrounded by snow piled as deep as a child's height on all sides. Much like with the masked people, Kino has an exchange with the guards where they sternly reprimand Kino for being a heretic and murderer, and Kino states that they'll leave the country before placing the bag with the gun at the guard's feet. But as Kino walks down the corridor, the guard calls out much more casually that they'll send the goods later as always, and politely thank Kino who merely asks that they leave it at the usual place.
Down the corridor is a sturdy building with separate rooms, and Kino enters one with a large living room including two wood stoves and fireplaces on either end, as well as two rooms - the one Kino enters having all the basic bedroom furnishings one might need to stay. Hermes, the talking motorcycle resting inside, greets Kino and asks how work was, to which Kino replies there were three people. Hermes comments that must be why Kino was late returning today.
Note: the original Japanese does not particularly gender Kino, and by default most people tend to assume Kino is male upon sight, so assume cases of "Miss" etc. are just some polite referral to Kino (one official translation uses Mx.) unless otherwise noted.
Re: 428 cw: euthanasia
-The goods are supplies.
-This has been happening for a while now; this is not actually Kino's first day there.
