Date: 2021-02-09 01:31 am (UTC)Description: The names "Kino" and "Hermes" are blanked out with static.
Sky and the motorrad talk to a young man dressed in a business suit and tie. He explains that because their country has machines that do everything so humans don't have to work anymore, the currency they now use is "stress," which can be accumulated by going to work. Stress is important to accumulate so that they can afford nicer things than the government granted food, clothing, and shelter. Despite the toll it takes on people and general unpleasantness, the man thinks it's a wonderful idea because it means the people endure hardships to know happiness, and it gives them a reason to be productive. He then suggests that Sky immigrate as they could surely get a good job and work their way up.
Sky thanks him for the explanation and then asks about the fees for everything as a traveler, since they need to get more supplies to continue traveling. The man then explains that travelers staying as guests for only a few days don't have to pay.
They move to a bench and Sky enjoys some tea. When the motorrad asks what they'll do next, Sky explains excitedly that if everything's free, they can use the rest of that day and the next to stock up on supplies and other items that can be sold at a high value in other countries. Sky insists that humans should relax whenever they can as they stand and prepare to start shopping, and the motorrad mutters "like teacher, like student."
Note: the original Japanese does not particularly gender Kino, and by default most people tend to assume Kino is male upon sight, so assume cases of "Miss" etc. are just some polite referral to Kino (one official translation uses Mx.)
